Lead VFX Artist

We are hiring a Lead VFX Artist (2D) for our client, a top-tier game studio in Barcelona, Spain, working on an exciting multiplayer mobile game. In this role, you will design and implement stylized real-time visual effects that enhance gameplay, immersion, and storytelling. You will create dynamic hand-drawn 2D VFX, particle systems, and shaders while ensuring seamless performance across multiple platforms. Responsibility

• Create high-quality hand-drawn 2D visual effects, frame-by-frame animations, and particle effects.
• Develop cartoon, anime, and painterly-stylized VFX that align with the game’s artistic vision.
• Work with real-time particle systems, sprite-based effects, and shaders to craft immersive visual experiences.
• Design 2D shaders and materials using Shader Graph, Amplify Shader Editor, or custom solutions.
• Optimize VFX performance using Unity profiling tools to ensure smooth gameplay across platforms.
• Collaborate closely with game designers, animators, and developers to integrate VFX seamlessly into gameplay.
• Oversee the entire VFX pipeline, from concept sketches to final in-engine implementation.
• Mentor and support junior VFX artists, sharing best practices and industry knowledge.

Requirement

• Strong expertise in hand-drawn 2D animation, frame-by-frame effects, and sprite-based particle systems.
• Proficiency in Spine, Adobe Animate, After Effects, Photoshop, and Unity VFX Graph.
• Experience with 2D shader development (Shader Graph, Amplify Shader Editor, or custom materials).
• Familiarity with C#, Python, or scripting tools to automate VFX processes.
• Proven ability to create high-quality stylized 2D effects that enhance gameplay.
• Hands-on experience in Unity (preferred) or Unreal Engine, working within real-time pipelines.
• Knowledge of VFX performance profiling and optimization for mobile, PC, and console games.
• A strong portfolio showcasing 2D VFX, particle systems, and real-time effects.
